Menards, Inc. (9120)

Morning Stocker

June - August 2021 • Buffalo, MN

What I liked

I like that Menards was flexible with college students and would recommend this job for college students.

What I wish was different

One thing that I wish had been different is sometimes I wish there was more work to do just for the fact that I would get up at 4:30am and sometimes there wouldn't be much stocking to do.

Advice

Your mind is a muscle you have to work it out by pushing yourself to get up early and get to work.

Computer Hardware Support Technician

May - August 2021 • Eau Claire, WI

What I liked

I liked that the training was comprehensive and questions were encouraged for interns. I also liked that I was able to listen to music/podcasts/books while repairing the equipment.

What I wish was different

I wish that there were more opportunity to socialize and talk with other employees.

Advice

Be prepared to get your hands literally dirty, and to lift some heavy items. Don't bother buying professional clothing, just jeans and a collared shirt will do.

May - August 2021 • Montpelier, OH

What I liked

I loved the team I worked with. They gave you a lot of independence, but came to help when necessary. The job was physically and mentally demanding. As challenging as it was, the supervisors and managers gave positive feedback often. Their attitudes were uplifting and motivational.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more employees because occasionally supervisors and managers were not available to help with the workload.

Advice

Some days were much more challenging than others. The work was mentally challenging because of the demand for efficiency and safety. It was easy to become frustrated , but I just reminded myself to slow down and do the best work I could accomplish.

IS intern

June - August 2020 • Eau Claire, WI

What I liked

I enjoy getting the experience of what it’s like to actually work with real life code applications.

What I wish was different

Wish I could’ve interacted more with my coworkers, but Covid restricted that.

Advice

My advice is to find and take anything related to your major, but also to not sell yourself short. There’s always an experience waiting to happen; you just have to find it.

Cashier Supervisor

June 2016 • Lincoln, NE

What I liked

My coworkers have always been fantastic and understanding.

What I wish was different

Some management disagreements between me and some upper-level staff in terms of the job. Also some guests are hard to work with and for to say the least.

Advice

Get to know your coworkers personally. If you hate your job, you might not hate the people you work with. If you hate both, find somewhere else to work. Also, just show up to work.

Advice

Make sure to plan ahead, since we need to notify two weeks in advance of any schedule changes, it can lead to some awkward scheduling conflicts, especially with finals if you aren't prepared.

Forklift Driver

July 2019 • Eau Claire, WI

What I liked

Very flexible scheduling to work around my school schedule. Always let me take days off when I need too and the pay is great for a part-time job.

What I wish was different

The training was not the best, they trained you how to operate the forklift and headsets fine, however they miss a lot of other stuff we should know before being on our own. By asking other team members I figured everything out after about a week. With proper training I believe I could of learned everything I needed to know in a couple of hours.

Advice

Working part-time has been a great way for me to help pay my bills and would recommend to anyone. It does require to sacrifice a lot of free time but with good time management it can be done.
