MHI Compensation: This position is eligible for the MHI $1000 Scholarship. Students who receive an offer for this position will be required to enroll in the Mellon Humanities Internship course to receive the $1000 scholarship disbursement. As referenced in the Student Interest Form that you filled out to sign up for participation in MHI, this scholarship can impact, or be impacted by, other financial aid you receive.
If an internship requires out of pocket costs, students may apply for reimbursement for expenses including background checks, qualifying travel, or equipment. All applications will be reviewed and processed for eligibility. Please contact your departments internship coordinator for more details.
The $1000 scholarship offered for this position is intended to provide financial assistance for the pursuit of your education; it is not compensation for the performance of any services and does not create an employment relationship between the you and the Site.
This position is an experiential learning opportunity and receipt of the scholarship is tied to an academic course (IDS 3947). If you do not complete your registration for the course in a timely manner, your internship offer may be withdrawn, and your department’s Internship Coordinator may notify the host organization that the position has reopened.
Job Description:
The Skills Center is a sports-based youth development organization. We promote sports intentionally infused with life skills and academics. We pursue a purposeful development of young minds from ages 3 to 24. Our55,000 sq. ft. Youth Development facility features intentional programming and initiatives for youth within the Tampa Bay region that uses the power of sports to create academic and leadership success for young people.
The Skills Center is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Health & Wellness & Facilities Support Intern to assist in the delivery and coordination of community wellness programs and facility operations. This position provides hands-on experience in program support, event coordination, and operational management within a youth development environment.
The intern will work closely with the Health & Fitness and Facilities teams to support fitness programming, assist with events, and contribute to improving daily operations and community engagement. This role is ideal for individuals interested in health promotion, program coordination, and operational support in a nonprofit setting.
Responsibilities:
• Work to create a facility event planning checklist/timeline template.
• Assist with participant registration and front desk activities to support daily program operations
• Support scheduling and coordination of fitness classes, instructors, and participant attendance
• Assist in planning and coordinating events, including logistics, setup, and participant engagement
• Capture photos and videos of programs and events to support content creation
• Assist in developing and organizing basic social media content to promote activities and community engagement
• Support day-to-day administrative tasks, including record-keeping and program coordination
• Assist with facility setup, maintenance coordination, and ensuring spaces are ready for programs and events

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Interest in health, wellness, or community-based programming
