MHI Compensation: This position is eligible for the MHI $1000 Scholarship. Students who receive an offer for this position will be required to enroll in the Mellon Humanities Internship course to receive the $1000 scholarship disbursement. As referenced in the Student Interest Form that you filled out to sign up for participation in MHI, this scholarship can impact, or be impacted by, other financial aid you receive. 

If an internship requires out of pocket costs, students may apply for reimbursement for expenses including background checks, qualifying travel, or equipment. All applications will be reviewed and processed for eligibility. Please contact your departments internship coordinator for more details.

The $1000 scholarship offered for this position is intended to provide financial assistance for the pursuit of your education; it is not compensation for the performance of any services and does not create an employment relationship between the you and the Site.

This position is an experiential learning opportunity and receipt of the scholarship is tied to an academic course (IDS 3947). If you do not complete your registration for the course in a timely manner, your internship offer may be withdrawn, and your department’s Internship Coordinator may notify the host organization that the position has reopened.

Job Description:                                                                                                      

These two projects are for two interns who are self-starters and eager to use their communication skills to make a real-world impact. Each intern will take on one event listed below.

Location: This is a remote position with the possibility of required in-person attendance at certain events in the Tampa Bay area.

Innovation Pipeline Event (November 2026)
Description: As a Marketing Intern for the Innovation Pipeline, you'll join a team dedicated to fostering economic mobility and creating a more equitable innovation landscape across Florida. This event is a critical component of our broader Innovation Pipeline Project, which has already successfully reached over 110 participants in Pensacola and Tampa. Your role will be to develop and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy to drive attendance and engagement. You'll gain hands-on experience in public relations by drafting and submitting press releases to media outlets and event calendars. You will also directly engage with community partners, attending in-person events to spread awareness and build momentum. This project is a chance to apply your skills in writing and storytelling to help connect Florida residents with the training and resources they need to thrive in the tech-enabled economy. You will be instrumental in a project that empowers businesses, fosters new leaders, and builds a more diverse and vibrant innovation ecosystem for all.

Beyond the Block: From Code to Capital Event (November 2026)
Description: Join us as a Marketing Intern for "Beyond the Block: From Code to Capital," a high-impact event designed to empower residents of the Tampa Bay Area with the knowledge to build wealth through technology. This dynamic, immersive experience explores cutting-edge technologies like AI, Virtual Reality, and Digital Currency. You will take the lead in developing and executing marketing campaigns that highlight key themes such as "From Prompts to Profits" and "Building Your Digital Footprint." Your work will involve crafting compelling social media content, designing digital promotional materials, and leveraging a variety of marketing channels. Additionally, you will be responsible for drafting and distributing press releases to local and regional media, as well as attending community events to promote the event in person. This is a unique opportunity to use your creative skills to drive community-wide economic empowerment and technological literacy.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express)
  • Familiarity with various social media platforms and content creation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks
