MHI Compensation: This position is eligible for the MHI $1000 Scholarship. Students who receive an offer for this position will be required to enroll in the Mellon Humanities Internship course to receive the $1000 scholarship disbursement. As referenced in the Student Interest Form that you filled out to sign up for participation in MHI, this scholarship can impact, or be impacted by, other financial aid you receive. 

If an internship requires out of pocket costs, students may apply for reimbursement for expenses including background checks, qualifying travel, or equipment. All applications will be reviewed and processed for eligibility. Please contact your departments internship coordinator for more details.

The $1000 scholarship offered for this position is intended to provide financial assistance for the pursuit of your education; it is not compensation for the performance of any services and does not create an employment relationship between the you and the Site.

This position is an experiential learning opportunity and receipt of the scholarship is tied to an academic course (IDS 3947). If you do not complete your registration for the course in a timely manner, your internship offer may be withdrawn, and your department’s Internship Coordinator may notify the host organization that the position has reopened.

Job Description:                                                                                                      

St Pete Campus ONLY

This position requires some in person studio time in downtown St Pete.

Radio St. Pete / Sunshine 96.7 FM is seeking a creative, enthusiastic Graphic Design & Social Media Intern to help build our digital presence and tell the stories of our local music, arts, culture, news, community organizations, events, and radio programming.

This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience creating content for a real community media organization. The intern will work with the Radio St. Pete team to develop engaging, on-brand content across our social media platforms and help grow awareness of our programming, podcasts, events, and community coverage.

What You’ll Do

Social Media

  • Create and schedule engaging content for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Develop content specifically suited to each platform while maintaining a consistent Radio St. Pete brand.
  • Create posts promoting radio shows, podcasts, interviews, local musicians, community events, news, and station initiatives.
  • Help develop short-form video content, including Reels, TikToks, YouTube Shorts, and promotional clips.
  • Identify opportunities to turn interviews, broadcasts, photos, and other station content into social media stories.
  • Write engaging captions, headlines, calls-to-action, and hashtags.
  • Help maintain and grow Radio St. Pete's branded social media accounts.
  • Monitor engagement and help identify what types of content resonate with our audience.
  • Assist with maintaining a consistent posting schedule across platforms.

Graphic Design

  • Create graphics for social media posts, show promotions, podcasts, events, fundraising campaigns, newsletters, and other station communications.
  • Work within Radio St. Pete's existing visual identity and branding.
  • Create templates that can be reused by staff and volunteer hosts.
  • Design promotional graphics for Sunshine 96.7 FM, Radio St. Pete programming, podcasts, and special events.
  • Resize and adapt graphics for different platforms and formats.
  • Help develop creative visual concepts for campaigns and special projects.

Content Development

  • Work with station staff, hosts, and volunteers to identify stories and content worth promoting.
  • Attend selected station events, live broadcasts, community events, or recording sessions to capture photos and short videos for social media.
  • Help repurpose existing audio and video content into digital and social media content.
  • Collaborate with the Development Director, and programming team on campaigns and promotions.

Minimum Skills & Qualifications

  • Creative and enthusiastic with an interest in social media, graphic design, communications, marketing, journalism, media, or broadcasting.
  • Good written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Comfortable learning new social media tools and platforms.
  • Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with a design program such as Canva, Adobe Express, Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar.
  • Ability to create visually appealing social media graphics.
  • Understanding of basic social media best practices.
  • Dependable and able to meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable working independently while also taking direction and collaborating with a team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Interest in St. Petersburg and the local community is a plus.

Professional social media or graphic design experience is not required. We are happy to work with a student who has creativity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn.

We currently use Canva for most of our graphics.
