Student Instructional and Learning Assistant

Student Instructional and Learning Assistants (SILA) – Spring 2021
Purpose and Role:
 
Supporting faculty and students with:
  • Logistical help - such as navigating multi-modal instructional and learning spaces (including classrooms, labs, and performance sections)
  • Subject or content assistance – tutoring sessions, facilitating study groups
  • High enrollment organization and responding to student questions

Scope:
·        Students may be selected based on their academic major and prior course schedule. We will give priority assignment to: Undergraduate Classroom and Hybrid class sections followed by assignment to large Primarily Distance (online) and All Distance (online) sections.
Qualifications:
·        UG (Junior or Senior standing) and GR students (in-state, out-of-state, and international students are eligible)
·        Must be in good academic standing (cumulative UG GPA of >3.0 and GR GPA of >3.5)
·        Must be enrolled full-time
·        Full-time graduate assistants are not eligible
·        Must be willing to attend on-campus training and instructional sessions
·        Strongly preferred that the student has earned no less than a B+ in the class assigned

Terms:
·        For Spring 2021 semester only
·        Each student is eligible for one course assignment only
·        16 weeks at up to 15 hours per week of class support
·        $15/hour
·        Contract continues throughout the semester, even if we move to fully online
·        International students can work up to 20 hours per semester and must have a Social Security Number (SSN) or have proof of application for a SSN.

Upon hire, students will receive a hiring packet. One of the documents, the State of Florida Loyalty Oath, requires a notary signature.
